Day after surgery!

Today is the day after surgery. I am doing great!! The surgeon and his PA said everything went great and my procedure was very uneventful, in a good way. I was scheduled for a 330 procedure, but got a call around 10 asking if I could come in earlier, as they had an earlier opening. We all got ready super fast, I even left J with a bed full of laundry he needed to fold. Oops! We got ready, dropped the girls off with our wonderful neighbor, then off to the hospital we went. We only waited in registration for about 10 minutes, then waited in the pre op area for 30 minutes or so, which was some simple tests, explaining time expectations, and answering medical history information. Next I was transferred to the transfer station, last stop before OR. I waited here for about 1.5 hours. I met the surgical team and away we went.

About 2 hours later, I wake up in recovery. It was crowded and I kept asking for my husband is all I remember. They were super nice though and kept the pain tolerable.

I finally got into my room here at Hotel Swedish and J comes in right after, which was a relieve. I sent him home shortly after I was settled, so I could rest. I was able to take some laps of the floor which helped ease some of the pain. Then I just rested for the majority of the night. Around 11pm, the resident came in and did his rounds and said everything looks great! I then woke up around 3am, and couldn't sleep, so I decided it would be good to walk around the floor a bit. I then rested until about 7am, when I was woken up by the PA.

I had/have some gassy pains and some pain where the hiatal hernia was repaired. I also learned the hard way what it feels like when I take too big of a gulp. It felt stuck and almost like I had to burp. Once I was able to burp, the pain went away. My oxygen has been dipping all night and this morning, it has gotten into the 70's. Therefore, they put me back on the oxygen and the nurse from the Dr. McMahon's office came in and stated she is going to talk to the PA about getting a chest x-ray completed to see if there is something wrong.

This morning, I was able to eat, well if that is what you call it. I have been taking 2oz of protein shake every hour, then hydrating liquids in between in an unlimited amount. I had water, a sugar free citrus drink (which I added Splenda), and a cup of Chicken Broth.

Well, that is where I am right now.

Starting weight in February, 2012: 235lbs
Day of surgery weight August, 2012: 209.9lbs
That's a difference of 26 lbs!!!

The following pictures were taken the night before surgery.

J's Progress at 2 months out!

So hard to believe, but J is 2 months out now!! He is down 70 lbs and doing amazing!! Here are some side by side shots of him. He had some difficulty since he was travelling most of the second month, so he made some 'poor choices' as our nutritionist would say. I am so proud of him and who he is becoming!!

Temptations

So, this is the part I was dreading. Yesterday I faced my first temptation and I succeeded!! We were going to head to the farmer's market, but it was too busy for me to tackle alone with the girls. So, E asked if we could go get a McFlurry for her and her sister her treat. I said sure. When I passed the McFlurry and milkshake to the back of the car I was soooo tempted to just take one sip or bite. I held back and drank my bottled water instead, yup I said a bottled water not my large Coke or Diet Coke that the Momma Fatty used to always have when we went to McDonald's. I was proud of myself.

Today I faced another set of temptations. The girls and I treated ourselves to dinner at our favorite local restaurant, North Bend Bar and Grill. My usual fatty order from there would have been a Coke or two or three or four, an order of buffalo wings, and a bacon cheeseburger on a yummy roll with either steak fries or homemade potato chips. I found a way to make the meal semi-healthy and low carb. I asked for lemon to add to my water. Then I got the buffalo wings which E had half and then I shared my 3 with the little one, I also did not use as much blue cheese dressing as normal. For my meal I did get the bacon cheese burger with no dressing and I took the roll off and ate the meat alone. Lastly, I replaced my fried side with a spring mix salad.

These temptations were not as hard as I was dreading. I am excited that I was able to reach them so early out and that I was able to overcome them. Here is to the next 2 weeks of pre op then 3 weeks of post op!!

Pre Op Diet Day 5

So today was successful, I think. I did take in quite a bit more calories than I have been and my goal but I came way under as far as carbs and pretty high on the protein, which is ultimately the goal of this diet. What pushed me over the edge was I took the girls to dinner tonight.

So here it is:
Breakfast: About 1/2 cup of scrambled eggs (I measured it as such because I made a big batch for the girls) with 3 pieces of bacon.
Lunch: 2 hard boiled eggs
Snack: 1 Dubliner snack cheese
Dinner: 3 buffalo wings, a bun-less bacon burger, about 1/2 cup of Spring mix salad with 4 croutons, with a total of 2 Tbsp of blue cheese dressing (for the wings and salad)
Dessert: Sugar free popsicle

The Damage:
Calories: 1,596
Carbs: 11g
Fat: 121g
Protein: 102g
